Former St. James track standout Brunson Miller won his first?ever ACC indoor championship in the 400 meters on Saturday, placing first with a time of 46.49.
Miller also anchored the winning 1,600-meter relay team, rounding out a solid day for the Clemson senior. Miller transferred to Clemson from The Citadel.
?It actually meant a lot to me, having just transferred in,? Miller said. ?I kept a good pace, and to come out there and open up by winning, it?s just really a big confidence-booster.?
Miller was confident going into the finals, especially after placing first in the preliminaries.
?I was planning on winning the whole time,? Miller said. ?I never had a doubt that I could win, I just went out there and did what I had to do, and I?m just really happy that I was able to go out there and utilize my capabilities and get the win.?
Miller, who graduated from St. James in 2009, ran 46.85 in the prelims before going even faster in the finals.
?It does give you an advantage [winning the preliminaries] because I get to start in Lane 5, which is the fastest lane, and you?ve got a fast person in Lane 6 so you kind of set your pace off of them; so yeah winning the prelims definitely helps,? Miller said.

??(At) South Carolina Warriors 149, Electric City (Greenville) Lions 115 | In a game where both teams were shooting lights out, it was the pressure defense that helped the Warriors come out with a victory.
South Carolina forced 36 turnovers to counter a 55-percent shooting effort for Electric City.
?Obviously we played some great trapping defense,? said Warriors coach John Kefalas, whose team also shot 54 percent.
Kellen Brand had 34 points and nine assists, Donterious Hughes added 28 points, and Mike Vogler had 22 points and 12 assists as the Warriors had seven players in double figures.
It was a nice team win, Kefalas said, considering the playoffs are fast approaching.
?The bottom line is this is when we should start peaking and being ready for the playoffs,? he said. ?We had seven guys in double figures and we only had nine guys playing. That?s a good balance.?
Chris Hill added 20 points and nine rebounds, former Coastal Carolina standout Jon Pack had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Kyle Phillips had 15 points, and Barry Jordan contributed 13 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (22-1).
?It was a good win. The kids are playing harder and harder,? Kefalas said.
