After weeks of back and forth, the league, the union, and the Houston Rockets have finalized a plan that will limit the number of flights for Royce White during the regular season.
Houston's Fox 26 News has reported today that all parties involved have agreed on and approved a plan that will allow Royce White to mitigate his fear of flying. With a plan in place that Royce is comfortable with, maybe it's time we can stop talking about Royce White's anxiety disorder and start talking about his plight as an NBA rookie. Royce White missed the first week of training camp, a hiccup that many believe will set him back months into the NBA season, and has only appeared in two of Houston's five preseason games.
And Royce White couldn't be any happier:
We had some hurdles, but at the end of the day Morey, Gersson, Mr. Alexander, they are all supporting my mental illness and supporting me getting better and getting through this with their help.
And now a quote from Royce that made me particularly proud to be a fan of the Rockets, a team often accused of treating their athletes like a form of currency:
It's incredible. The words can't explain how much gratitude I have toward the organization for that.
I have my own thoughts about how and when this all should have been resolved but it's time to bury the hatchet. The bottom line here is that Royce is now in a state of mind where he can focus on his game and I'll look forward to seeing more from him during our remaining preseason games.
