Now that April has officially arrived, it's time to take a look at the most notable culinary events coming up this month and beyond. Not only are traveling festivals Cochon 555 and Taste of the Nation winding their way through American cities this month, but Austin is home to explorations of barbecue and other Texas wonders at both the Foodways Texas Symposium and the Austin Food & Wine Festival. Toward the end of the month, London is playing host to an appreciation of insect eating in collaboration with the Nordic Food Lab, while May brings food and musical festivals like Brooklyn's Great GoogaMooga and Napa's BottleRock. Pebble Beach Food & Wine
When: April 4 - April 7, 2013
Where: Pebble Beach, CA
What: This Food & Wine festival has a lengthy lineup of chefs and restaurateurs, including Daniel Boulud, Christopher Kostow, Pierre Gagnaire, Michelle Berstein, Fabio Viviani, Masaharu Morimoto, Roy Yamaguchi, Nancy Oakes, the legendary Guy Fieri, and more. There's a master class in hospitality from the Union Square Hospitality Group's Danny Meyer, a screening of wine documentary Somm, and a Cecilia Chiang tribute dinner.
Foodways Texas Symposium
When: April 4 - April 6, 2013
Where: Austin, TX
What: The third annual iteration of the Foodways Texas Symposium celebrates barbecue and looks to "explore the past, present, and potential of smoked meat in Texas and its intimate connections to Texas cultural history and identity." Franklin Barbecue's Aaron Franklin and Briskettown's Daniel Delaney, Smoke's Tim Byres and Texas Monthly's new barbecue editor Daniel Vaughn all serve on panels discussing things like "The New Business of Barbecue" and "The Barbecue Road Trip."
Cochon 555
When and where: Washington, DC (4/7), San Francisco (4/14), Miami (4/21), Chicago (4/28), Los Angeles (5/5)
What: The annual traveling pork extravaganza wraps up this year's tour with stops in Washington, DC, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago and Los Angeles. Five prominent chefs in each city each get a heritage pig and will compete to be named the Prince or Princess of Porc. Each city's winner will go on to compete at the Grand Cochon at Aspen's Food & Wine Classic on June 16.
Taste of the Nation
When and where: Washington, DC (4/8), Boston (4/18), Philadelphia (4/28), New York City (4/29)
What: Share Our Strength's annual event returns to cities across America to raise money for the organization's No Kid Hungry campaign. Top restaurants and mixologists in each city come together to provide tastings and cocktails. There are also auctions for various food events and experiences.
World Gourmet Summit
When: April 16 - April 26, 2013
Where: Singapore
What: Singapore's World Gourmet Summit has focused on global gastronomy since its inauguration in 1997. This year's "Artisans & The Art Of Dining"-themed event features Michelin-starred chefs from all over the world, including Portugal's Joachim Koerper, France's Yannick Alleno and India's Sanjeev Kapoor. Events include The Gentleman's Guide To Mastering The Art Of Breakfast, a charity dinner, and more.
Austin Food & Wine Festival
When: April 26 - April 28, 2013
Where: Austin, TX
What: Austin chefs such as Paul Qui, Bryce Gilmore, Rene Ortiz join with fellow Texans (Tim Byres, Tim Love) and visiting chefs from all over the country for this Food & Wine-presented festival. There are going to be demos from Christina Tosi, Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo, Marcus Samuelsson, Andrew Zimmern and more, plus a competition to find out who can make the greatest taco in the land.
Exploring the Deliciousness of Insects
When: April 30 - May 1, 2013
Where: London, England
What: The Wellcome Collection is collaborating with the Pestival Festival on "a gastronomic evening of insect appreciation" with the Nordic Food Lab's Michael BomFr?st and Benedict Reade, plus entomology professor Marcel Dicke. There will be passed insect canap?s, beer brewed by Ren? Redzepi's Nordic Food Lab, and lots of conversation about elevating the status of insect-eating.
Food Book Fair
When: May 3 - May 5, 2013
Where: Brooklyn, NY
What: Over the course of three days, food writers, chefs, designers and more will descend on Brooklyn in honor of the written word. Participants include Nate Appleman, Marion Nestle, Oliver Strand, and Swallow Magazine, plus cookbooks and publications from Hugh Acheson, Cook It Raw, Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, and Nancy Singleton. There will also be a resource fair for small food start-ups and Foodieodicals, "[a]n exposition of international food magazines, journals and periodicals from all over the world."
BottleRock
When: May 9 - May 12, 2013
Where: Napa, CA
What: BottleRock is much more than just a food festival: It's also a music festival, wine festival, and comedy festival. Napa area restaurants are providing the food, including La Condesa, Morimoto and a bunch of Napa Valley food trucks. Napa wineries are naturally involved as well, while musical acts include The Black Keys, The Avett Brothers, Cake, Violent Femmes, Blues Traveler, Mavis Staples and more. Comedians include the likes of Jim Gaffigan, Kristen Schaal, and Wyatt Cenac.
Vegas Uncork'd
When: May 9 - May 12, 2013
Where: Las Vegas, Nevada
What: Bon App?tit Magazine's annual Vegas blowout returns with the reliably fun grand poolside tasting, plus master tastings with Francois Payard, Guy Savoy, Nobu Matsuhisa, Gordon Ramsay, and more. Joel Robuchon is hosting a six-course "When in France" dinner, while Alain Ducasse ends the weekend with a brunch at miX.
Great GoogaMooga
When: May 17 - May 19, 2013
Where: Brooklyn, NY
What: Returning for a second year (and hopefully with fewer hitches), the Great GoogaMooga is storming Brooklyn's Prospect Park with a killer lineup of food and music. Vendors include Big Gay Ice Cream, Eataly, Momofuku Milk Bar, Pat LaFrieda, The Meatball Shop, Umami Burger and more, while musical acts include the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Flaming Lips and The Darkness. The Restaurant at Meadowood's Christopher Kostow is also doing a special three-course ticketed dinner

Where: Mexico City, Mexico
What: Enrique Olvera's M?samerica Festival returns for a second year with a lineup of chefs that includes Ren? Redzepi, Alex Atala, David Kinch, Andoni Luis Aduriz, Jorge Vallejo, Elena Reygadas, and Daniel Humm and Will Guidara. The festival's aim is to promote Mexican cuisine in a conversation among those at the forefront of global gastronomy.

What: Atlanta's iteration of Food & Wine festival brings in chefs from throughout the South to celebrate the region's culinary heritage from Florida to Maryland. Aspen Food & Wine Classic
